Trewen Parish Plan Survey

Earlier this year, a survey was issued to residents which will be used to support the drafting of a Parish Plan. The results of the survey have now been collated. Below is a summary of the main points. A full analysis of the results can be viewed on the Trewen website www.Trewen.net. An exhibition of the results and progress on the plan will also be held on Saturday 4th September in Pipers Pool Methodist Hall.

Surveys issued: 60. Surveys Returned: 52

  • The respondent population of the parish was almost equally divided between male and females
  • The majority of respondents were aged over 40 while less than 6% were under the age of 20
  • The majority of respondent households were made up of 1 or 2 people A significant proportion ( about 1/3) of respondents classed themselves as retired
  • Approximately half of respondents have lived in the Parish for less than 10 years and many live here because they like the area
  • No conclusion can be drawn regarding knowledge, use and satisfaction with the condition of public rights of way.
  • There is some level of interest in helping to maintain the Parish.
  • Most people that responded felt that dog fouling and litter was a limited problem.
  • Slightly more than half of the respondents that showed an interest would support various traffic calming measures; few respondents would join in the Speedwatch program.
  • Travel distance to work varies and amongst those respondents to whom it applies is less than 10 miles daily.
  • The majority of respondents do not currently use public transport but some thought they might if more was available. There was little interest in car sharing
  • A majority of respondents thought a parish business directory was a good idea and some would add their details to a directory
  • The majority of respondents who expressed an opinion thought the chapel could be altered to accommodate more events. The majority of respondents were aware of the various community groups. There was some interest in suggested community events.
  • The majority of respondents have internet access and this is almost wholly via broadband. On the whole connectivity was felt to be satisfactory.
  • The Trewen website is not well used. Comments suggested that a regularly updated site could be useful.
  • The majority of respondents read the Parish Pump.
  • The majority of respondents did not feel that additional housing was needed within the Parish
  • There was limited interest for allotments or a garden sharing scheme. The majority of respondent households rely on more than one form of energy. There was a significant interest in bulk buying schemes and research into sustainable energy.
  • A majority of respondents were satisfied with policing services
